Winter Crafts & Hot Cocoa

This is a fun way for children aged 3 and older to express their creativity by making winter-themed crafts, while enjoying some snacks and hot cocoa. Thanks to a grant from the Global Foundries/Town of Malta Foundation, there will be no charge for this event.

After crafts, head over to the 4:30 holiday tree-lighting ceremony at Parade Ground Village, sponsored by Malta Business Works.

Donations of a non-perishable item for the Malta Food Bank or an unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots will be much appreciated.

2024 Art Swap

Bring any handmade craft or piece of art, go home with an original piece from another creator.

We invite all local artists to participate!  Bring your handmade art to the Round Lake Auditorium between 12:30 and 1:00 on June 15.  Display your artwork on the provided tables, enter a raffle or two, and have a snack while you socialize with other artists and event-goers.  At 1:15 sharp the fun will begin!  When your number is called, you get to choose somebody else’s art to take home.

There will also be raffle prizes at the end of the Swap!

Cost

  • This event is FREE for Malta League of Arts (MLA) members. Members also get one free raffle ticket.

  • FREE for children 12 and under

  • $5 for non-members in advance, $10 on-site

  • $5 for observers/guests, unless an MLA member

  • Price includes admission to the Art Swap, refreshments, access to the Supply Swap, and raffles.

  • All proceeds will be used to fund more events like this.

    How does it work?

    1. Choose what art you would like to swap

    2. Pre-register for the Art Swap

    3. Send photos of your art to maltalarts@gmail.com so we can post them on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.

    4. Show up at 12:30 on June 15.  Guests and other participants can register on-site. All items for the swap must arrive by 1:00.

    5. Register, pick up your call number(s), and display your artwork.  Drop off any Supply Swap donations.

    6. Have a snack and socialize with other artists and guests.  Check out the other artwork that is available for swaps.  Check the Supply Swap table for anything you can use.

    7. At 1:15 sharp the Art Swap begins!  Listen for your number(s), then choose what you want to take home.

    8. When all the items have been claimed, raffle winners will be announced and prizes awarded.

    June 15 Itinerary

    12:30–1:00 – Register, pick up your call number(s), and display your artwork.  Drop off any Supply Swap donations.

    12:3 –1:15 – Have a snack and socialize with other artists and guests.  Check out the other artwork that is available for swaps.  Check the Supply Swap table for anything you can use.

    Rules

    You may bring (and take home) up to 5 pieces.

    Each piece must be small enough to carry.

    Your submission can be any handmade art or craft —painting, drawing, ceramic, sewing, jewelry, woodwork, yard art, crochet, knitting, mosaics, paper craft, photography, 2-D media, sculpture, screen printing, clay, soap, etc.

    This is a family event.  No depictions of nudity, drugs, violent imagery, or foul language will be allowed.

    Promote yourself!  Bring business cards, if you have them, or a card or paper with your information on it to display with your piece(s).  Attach a business card or contact information to your work.

    Buying and selling are prohibited, but arrangements for future purchases or trades are OK.

Rock Painting Workshop

Rock Painting Workshop

The Malta League of Arts will hold a rock painting workshop for children age 8 and older on Saturday, May 11 at School House Park in Round Lake, at the corner of Andrews Ave and Janes Ave (the Round Lake Rock Labyrinth). If it rains, the workshop will be located in the Community Room at the Round Lake Village Hall. All materials will be provided, and there will be no charge for this event.

Rock painter Dawn Davis will lead the rock painting activity, which will be limited to 20 children. Adults may also participate. The completed rocks can either be taken home by the painter or donated for permanent placement in the Round Lake Rock Labyrinth.

Participants are welcome to attend the Summer Solstice Candlelight Walk at the Labyrinth on June 21, and children can pose for photos with their rocks.

Seasonal Events

  • The Malta League of Arts holds an annual meeting of the general membership that is dedicated to our non-Board members and individuals interested in becoming members.  We talk about what the League has been working on, what has been accomplished, and plans for the future.  We invite members to join our Board, as space allows, and to present recommendations for policies, procedures and activities to be pursued during the coming year.

    The Malta League of Arts is a member-driven and member-responsive organization.  We welcome participation by anyone who wants to be actively engaged in the Malta League of Arts.

  • Bring original artwork or art supplies to exchange for something new!

    This year will be our first Art Swap, to be held June 3, 2023 at the lovely, historic Round Lake Auditorium.

    Details and guidelines are being developed for this event, and will appear here soon.

  • Give your creativity a kick start!  These presentations will feature someone in the arts community either talking about their work or creative process, or presenting a class.

  • Join your child in a morning of seasonal crafts and light refreshments.

    This event will take place on December 2, 2023 at the Malta Community Center.  It will be open to all children accompanied by an adult, and there will be different stations for all ages to create winter art projects.

    Please check back to see details as they become available!

  • We would like to see your artwork and share it with our community!  Every month or two we will propose a topic or theme.  The challenge may be to take a seasonal photo, paint an abstract painting, or create a representation of your pet.  We’ll send all members the details in an email and post it in this space on our web page.  Entries will be submitted via the Malta League of Arts Facebook page.  We will post all entries here and on our Facebook and Instagram pages, with information about you, the creator.  One entry in each challenge will be selected by the Malta League of Arts Art Challenge Committee to be a “Finalist”.    At the end of the year, one piece of artwork will be selected from all Finalists to be used on the cover of that year’s Malta League of Arts Brochure, with a modest cash award and credit attributed to the artist.  Remember, only members are allowed to participate!
